Ioana’s art is about what we don’t see. It emerges from a place beneath the surface—a state of the subconscious. Her works are not made to be explained, but rather experienced and interpreted by the viewer. For her, they are too personal to be fully read.
Working primarily from imagination, Ioana draws from feeling, intuition, and lived experience. The self, identity, and memory are recurring themes throughout her practice. References often feel restrictive, so she relies on subconscious impressions—what emerges is raw, unfiltered, and deeply personal. Her approach is playful yet reflective, balancing experimentation with a sense of humour.
Time plays a crucial role in her process. Works are revisited after hours, weeks, or even months, allowing shifts in perception to shape the outcome.
Her background in theatre and film informs a sensitivity to movement, presence, and spatial relationships. At the core of her practice lies an interplay between control and surrender, structure and spontaneity. By embracing both intuition and materiality, Ioana creates works that remain open, alive, and in constant dialogue with the world around them.
